Indie artist Rio Kwess makes his official introduction on ThisisRnB with the release of his ‘Quarter 1 Music‘ EP.
The 21-year-old New Jersey native of Filipino descent is a rising R&B singer/rapper hybrid. Like others before him, Rio uses either medium to channel and deliver his inspiration, whether through silky vocals or smooth rap verses.
On “Closure,” he explores the emotions of a relationship ending abruptly over a filtered down sample of Anthony Hamilton’s “Charlene.”
“Acquainted” is a perfectly simplistic view into the mind of a man who is hoping to start up a relationship with a co-worker. Over ethereal production by Kloud, Rio displays his hybrid talents singing the first verse and hook, and following up with a shortened rap verse.
“I see you in our workplace / Walking around looking mighty fine,” he sings. “Let’s get to finally chat and talk / I’m tired of these ‘Hi’s’ and these ‘I’ll see you tomorrow’s’ / I wanna get acquainted.”
‘Quarter 1 Music‘ is Rio’s first mini project, which will shortly be followed up by similar length EP’s for Quarter 2, 3 and 4.
