Houston’s legendary emcee Z-Ro, who was just arrested for the aggravated assault of former girlfriend Brittany Bullock, also known as rapper Just Brittany, has already been charged in the case. On Thursday morning, Z-Ro, whose birth name is Joseph Wayne McVey IV, appeared in court where State District Judge George Powell ruled that he may have no contact with Bullock. Judge Powell agreed to a motion of emergency protection and establishing a no-contact order as one of the conditions for the bond. The rapper is now free on $50,000 bail.

The alleged assault that happened back in April in Z-Ro’s home, and only was recently reported last weekend, was allegedly over canceled dinner plans. Bullock, after already arguing with Z’Ro for some time that day and throwing up in a bathroom, recorded a 21-minute video where, according to deputies related to the case, the 40-year-old rapper can be heard physically abusing the woman. At one point, Z-Ro can be heard saying “You’re dead” as Bullock cries and begs for the assault to end.

Z-Ro tweeted before the trial, not directly referencing his upcoming court date, telling fans to purchase his final album, No Love Lost. “In other news… if you haven’t got my last album, “No Love Boulevard” here’s your chance…Hit the link in my twitter bio now!” he wrote.

The legendary artist’s last project has 14 tracks and no guest appearances. It features recently released standouts “From The Other Side” and “He’s Not Done.” He’s had a busy year, evident in the release of two prior LPs before the release of this one: Drankin’ & Drivin’ and LegendaryAfter the release of his last album, Z-Ro said in an interview that he wishes he would have been able to get on a song with Jay-Z.
