Lalah Hathaway is a musical messenger who conveys soul healing music. Today (July 21), she delivered “I Can’t Wait,” the lead single off her upcoming album, Honestly. The bouncy feel good groove is infectious, as her rich, husky vocals float over keyboards, snaps and synths.
“I really want to express to people, since there is so much dark sh*t happening right now, that music is truly this train that you can hop on to transport yourself to having a good time,” Hathaway said. “This song is intended to make people feel good and that is not something to be neglected in this moment.”
Due out this fall, the Grammy-Award winner’s latest opus is “a personal journey that is intimate, disruptive and, time-appropriately, honest.” The powerful new album is Hathaway’s first project with distribution partner, Caroline, which is focused on providing artist development to a variety of independent musicians. As a committed advocate of quality music and musicianship, Hathaway recognized a common interest with Caroline, ultimately joining forces to develop her own imprint, Hathaway Entertainment.
Drawing upon Hathaway’s legendary career and network of friends and collaborators, the burgeoning new label will act as a haven for independent artists, fostering new talent and spreading more real music to a wider audience of listeners.
“I’m so excited about partnering with Caroline to explore this part of my business,” Hathaway shared. “The music is a given, now I’m looking forward to the entrepreneurial side of my music experience and presenting new music and new artists to the world.”
Hathaway will join Mary J. Blige on the “Strength of a Woman Tour,” starting July 30. She will also headline her own show in Memphis, TN on August 8.
