Daley Releases Sophomore Album ‘The Spectrum’

(By: Raquelle Harris for

When you envision next level R&B, Daley is the prototype. His sophomore album, The Spectrum is a reflection of soul-baring intensity, saturated with honesty, love and a bit of pain.  The UK singer/songwriter’s tender, yet firm vocals ride a potent mix of soul, funk, pop and electronica. Melodic euphoria unfolds with “Until The Pain Is Gone,” his chart topping single with Jill Scott. Their soothing vocals blend into a mind massage that gives just enough get right.

Self-care is a priority on the piano-led “Selfish,” as he explains that he needs “to be cool to be kind.” While his deep spirituality is felt on “Temple,” and “The Fabric,” a dedication to his friend who passed away. His influences are clear on the bass heavy, Swindle assisted “Sympathy,” confirming him as a Prince protege.

90s R&B oozes from ballads like, “Second To None” as he sings,  “A million a things I have to do, but this distraction’s really all I need … Maybe I’m wrong / Maybe I’m foolish / A lifetime is a long time / So I might be crazy, but I don’t put nothing before you / Without you to hold, this life don’t mean nothing.”

The Essence Fest alum’s charm is infectious on the upbeat “Slow Burn” and “On Fire.” But don’t get lost in the sauce. He will check you, because you’re not “The Only One” who goes through some thangs. The guitar-tinged “True” and the dream-like “Distance” join other standouts, earning this jinx-free effort a spot on your playlist.

The Spectrum is available now on all digital outlets. Stream it below.
