Now that everyone has calmed down about the new JAY-Z album we can get back to focusing on indie artists. Wait, what’s that? Another big name dropped? Damn. One of the pitfalls of being an indie artist is many people won’t check your music if it’s released on the same day as a major artist. For example, I only listened to 4:44 for three days straight while I was writing my review for it. This is why it’s important to keep promoting your music and not giving up on a record. These records we’re highlighting today are weeks in the making and all of them still sound fresh. Want your music on this post some day? Here’s how to submit.
People want to crucify Drake for his actions but rarely ever talk about the door that he’s opened for many Toronto artists to be heard. Tay Jireh is an artist/producer from Toronto with a personal record titled ‘Key Of Life’. Co-produced by Sada, Tay details the grind and pursuit of his musical dreams over three different beats that all transition into different aspects of the dream. I believe if he keeps giving quality music like this that he’ll be ready to make some noise soon.
Riddy K Feat. Melo – Slow Down
What I love about Riddy K’s ‘Slow Down’ record is how honest he keeps it over the guitar influenced production. Riddy, a California native, taps singer Melo for assistance on the chorus which helps bring the song together. ‘Slow Down’ is a message to everyone that life goes by fast and that we’re all human. It’s easy to forget that about people as we live in such a fast paced society. Every now and then we need to take a moment to reflect on life and where we’re at, which is what Riddy does on this song.
Cam Kudo$a Feat. FrankeV – Money Calling
One area of the country that has been quiet on the Hip-Hop scene is Mississippi. David Banner carried the torch and passed it to Big K.R.I.T. earlier this decade. Since then it’s been silent for new artists but they’re all still there grinding and looking to be heard. Jackson, MS artist Cam Kudo$a is the perfect example of this as he’s unknown yet has a great song with ‘Money Calling” feat. FrankeV. Produced by TrellGotWings, the duo detail their grind and women over the trap production. The melody gets stuck in your head instantly and is one you’ll hum during the day without even knowing it.
