Kanye West reportedly has left Tidal, according to TMZ. An insider has told the outlet that the G.O.O.D. Music CEO left JAY-Z‘s streaming service because the company breach their contract.
Apparently, Hov and Yeezy’s legal team were in talks for two weeks trying to resolve their financial issues but failed and terminated the contract. In dispute was money owed for bringing in over million subscribers to Tidal and reimbursement for music videos. Tidal claims that Kanye never delivered the videos as promised.
In addition, Tidal has sent a letter to Kanye claiming that he’s still under contract with them and if he joins another streaming platform they would pursue legal action against him. According to sources, ‘Ye’s departure from Tidal happened way before JAY-Z released his album 4:44 where he threw a subliminal diss at the mercurial producer on “Kill JAY-Z.” The lyrics goes:
“I know people backstab you, I felt that too / But this ‘f— everybody attitude’ ain’t natural / But you ain’t the same, this ain’t Kumba ‘Ye / But you got hurt because you did cool by ‘Ye / You give him $20 million without blinking / He gave you 20 minutes on stage, f— what was he thinking? / ‘Fuck wrong with everybody?’ is what you saying / But if everyone is crazy, you’re the one that’s insane.”
So now we know some of the possible backstory to Hov’s lyrics on “Kill JAY-Z.” Hopefully, the two rap vets can mend their friendship. The pair have a long history together that stretches back to the hey-days of Roc-A-Fella Records to their 2011 collaborative project, Watch the Throne.
Reps for Kanye West had no comment on the matter.
